In child custody matters, the law is concerned with the best interests of the child. In Pennsylvania, judges are required to consider 16 different factors when creating a custody order, and give special attention to the factors involving the health and safety of the child.
There are two main forms of custody in Pennsylvania: legal custody, and physical custody.

The amount of support a parent is required to pay is determined by the “income shares model,” a complicated formula that considers a number of factors, including the incomes of the parties, the amount of overnights each party has with the children, and the cost of health insurance and daycare for the children.
